Bounces

Bounces: Aviation term for three take-offs and landings in the simulator.

FAA requirements mandate that every pilot has three Takeoffs and Landings in the previous 90 days. This rule came about because of long-haul flights, with 4 crew members, and not enough takeoffs and landings to go around. Pilots were flying, they just weren't maintaining their takeoff and landing currency. So a rule was established to keep them proficient.

Somehow this rule has merged into the only flying that some pilots will do because they are on reserve, and there is no flying available because either... other pilots are flying high time or the airline is overstaffed, an there are no provisions in place for reserve pilots to pick up another pilots trip.

If you read Flight For Control , you might discover that Bill thinks this type of currency is like "Kissing your Sister."

It's that time again...

Enjoy the Journey!

  1. Good luck with your training! I'd also add, and this goes out to every pilot; even though you are current, you may not be proficient! Best advice I was ever given after I got my IR: do IPCs (Instrument Proficiency Checks) even if you are current. It is always good to have another pilot's view and input on how we are doing. We never stop learning!

    Have a great day!
